There's more to California 'than what's shown on TV'

12/05/2010

There's more to California 'than what's shown on TV'California is famed for sun, sea, sand and Hollywood, but, according to California Tourism, there is far more to the US state that just what is shown on TV.

Maddy Morgan, PR director for California Tourism UK and Ireland, said people often feel like they known the state because it gets such high exposure on television.

"California is a place that people feel they know, even if they haven't actually been here, thanks to a combination of iconic sights like the Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood, Rodeo Drive and Yosemite, and the constant exposure the state gets on TV and film."

"But there is much more to the Golden State than what we see on the silver screen," she added.

Ms Morgan noted that there are "world-class ski resorts in Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain", while people can also see volcanoes in the Shasta Cascade region and natural hot springs in Calistoga and Palm Springs.

A recent article in the LA times said the California's Travel and Tourism Commission has predicted an increase in visitor numbers for 2011 of almost three per cent.
