Try Cyprus' food and drink to 'truly experience the island'
11/06/2010
People who are lucky enough to have cheap flights to Cyprus this summer should make sure they experience the island's food and drink. Lillian Panayi, spokesperson for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, advised that the countryside is very unspoilt and produces great food. "The food is very, very fresh and it's all been ripened by the sun because we have over 300 days of sunshine a year. The beauty of Cyprus is that you'll actually eat food that is in season, so you're tasting it at its freshest," she said. She added that Cypriot cuisine is "easy to enjoy" and will appeal to everyone. "It appeals to vegetarians, to meat lovers and children will always find something that they enjoy, especially the Cyprus chips." Ms Panayi advised that people should try kleftiko lamb, a dish cooked with lamb, tomatoes, onions, oregano and basil. According to research by the organisation, 58 per cent of people like to eat the food of the country they are in when on holiday and 26 per cent allow food to influence their destination choice.
