Tunisia and Morocco will "probably" be winners this year when people are booking short break, according to ABTA The Travel Association.
The comments come after a poll from PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that 2010 would see short breaks edge back up people's priority list.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for ABTA, said: "We saw a bit of a hit being taken on short breaks last year, but if people feel that they can afford to take them, they will. It's something that people always want to do."
The reason Morocco and Tunisia will increase in popularity this year is due to the restructuring of the air passenger duty, she explained, adding that under the old structure people travelling to these destinations were charged £40. Passengers will now be charged £22 at the standard rate and only £11 under the reduced rate, she noted.
"The air passenger duty change has actually positively impacted on those destinations," Ms Tuke added.
Last year, Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said New York was a great destination for short breaks.
