Songs for the Sun: Active You's top 10

Here at Active You we love our music and the arrival of August got me thinking about what would be the ideal playlist to get through the English summer with my moral intact despite the bad weather.
These are our top 10 of all times.

10 - Here comes the sun (The Beatles). It’s the expectation here, that for once the English summer will be a normal one for other coutnries’ standards, isn’t it? Oh, Spring has come and gone, here’s a bit of sun, everything will be better. Oh, here comes summer with its lovely sunshine... Oh, wait. Nope. Rain again.
9 - School’s out (Alice Cooper). I’m sure we all remember that feeling of elation when we reached our summer break as kids. It meant days playing out in the sun, a reduced reading list and only a little bit of housework to do. No       homework in sight. Ah, I miss being a 10 years-old!
8 - Sun is shining (Bob Marley)
. Comes July and the sun is timidly peaking out again and even if we are working we can’t avoid feeling a lot more relaxed than during the winter days.
7 - Summer Holiday (Cliff Richard). Now, I didn’t grow up listening to this particular song (wrong age and, more importantly, wrong country), but Cliff Richard is one of those English treasures you can’t just ignore. His song makes us think of sunny days in the 60s spent on the French riviera.

6 - Summer of ’69 (Bryan Adams). Memories of teenage years and whole summer days to be filled with dreams, badly planned projects and the entusiasm, belief and passion only a 16 year-old can have.
5 - Summer nights (Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta)
. A classic by all means, let alone for yours truly, the ultimate musical lover!
4 - The Boys of summer (Don Henley)
.  And some more summer romance from the likes of Don Henley, although this is of a far more tortured kind fron Sandy and Danny’s. Still a great song in our opinion that absolutely deserves its place in our playlist.
3 - In the summertime (Mungo Jerry)
. This is one for the gentlemen!  A track with some cheek to it, we still can’t stop ourselves from smiling and bobbing our head and tapping our foot when this is played.
    2 - Summertime (Billy Stewart)
. Conceeded this is a cover, but a great and bubbly oen for that matter which is exactly what one needs to go with the spring in one’s step caused by the shining sun and the higher tempereatures.
1 - California dreaming (The Mamas and the Papas). This might not be strictly a summer song, but we feel that after all the disappointing rain, wind and cold we have had to endure this represents our feelings exactly!

Have I left out anything that you would have liked to see in the list? Let us know and, in the meanwhile, don't forget to enter our competition to win 2 free tickets to see Coldplay live - Their songs might not be about sunshine and beaches, but they are definitely great!
