How to Write Your Own Travel Blog

Being a great travel enthusiast, I love to record every interesting detail about my trips... notes, photos, et al. The problem is it’s difficult to share all the pictures and videos because of the attachment limits of emails. So here’s Active You’s solution: write your own travel blog!

This way you can keep your friends posted without having to clog up their inboxes. You can also add photos on the go, even when you are on the road, and also let your followers and fans track you on a World Map! Best of all, you don’t need any server setup or technical knowledge at all.

You can easily host a free blog on popular services like Blogger and WordPress. In Active You’s experience, Blogger slightly shades Word Press simply because Word Press has a few bugs and glitches which can be interminably frustrating – the online equivalent of sumo wrestling.

If you prefer some more customisation, there are a few services like VirtualTourist.com which are tailored specifically for travellers, with facilities like unlimited photo storage and location plotter. All you need is a username and password, and you are ready to go! You just need to follow some simple instructions and your blog will be ready in a few minutes.  It’s quite simply a fantastic site.

Keeping the blog up-to-date will require some work though. You will need a good digital camera on your travels, with available slots for memory cards. You can transfer the images to your computer from the memory cards through USB card readers. Some advanced models nowadays come with cables that allow you to directly transfer images right from the camera.

Begin with an introductory blog post and let your friends know where they can track you when you’re off to exotic realms (i.e. your blog address).

    Now you’re ready to go!

On your travels simply jot down interesting details whenever you feel like it. If you have a smartphone with an Internet connection you can upload wherever you get a signal (then you can also use your camera phone for taking pictures). Else, you will need to update your blog from Internet cafes on the road.

Once you develop a sizeable following you can even have ads on your blog from which you can earn a regular income.  Welcome to the internet age where everyone’s a journalist!
