Colin Firth nets Bafta award

Colin Firth nets Bafta awardA Single Man's Colin Firth has scooped this year's best actor award at the Baftas.

The 49-year-old actor, who is best known for his roles in romantic comedies Bridget Jones and Love Actually, thanked director Tom Ford for leaving him "resuscitated, a little more worldly, better groomed, more fragrant and more nominated than one has ever been before".

An Education star Carey Mulligan netted the best actress gong at the ceremony, which took place last night.

Commenting on the win, Mulligan said she "didn't imagine in a million years that this would happen".

Best film went to Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker, which also scooped five other awards including the best director gong.

Kathryn Bigelow, the film's director, beat off competition from her husband James Cameron, who had been nominated for Avatar.

Last week, both Mulligan and Firth also named as the best British actress and actor at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards.
