Superheroes' powers to be curtailed?

22/02/2010

Superheroes' powers to be curtailed?Hollywood film superheroes could soon face having to lose some of their powers if the US National Academy of Science (NAS) has its way.

The NAS's advisory body, the Science and Entertainment Exchange, said there should only be one major transgression in the laws of science during a film.

Professor Sidney Perkowitz, one of the organisation's scientific senior advisors, could help to curb the film industry's worst abuses of science.

This will help films appear more realistic, while still enabling audiences to enjoy the, he noted.

"I am not offended if they make one big scientific blunder in a given film," Professor Perkowitz said.

"You can have things move faster than the speed of light if you want but after that I would like things developed in a coherent way."

His plans already have the support of a number of well-known people including The Empire Strikes Back's writer Lawrence Kasdan and sci-fi thriller Sphere's Dustin Hoffman.
