Boiler Scrappage Scheme is a 'home improvement bargain'
16/02/2010
The government's Boiler Scrappage Scheme is a home improvement bargain, it has been claimed. People across the UK have been snapping up the scheme's vouchers since it was launched last month, the Department of Energy and Climate Change said. It added that 54,758 of the campaign's vouchers are already gone, leaving only 70,000 vouchers, worth a total of £28 million, available. Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband said that the scheme has been "incredibly popular". "The scheme is helping householders to save around £200 a year off fuel bills and reduce emissions while helping to sustain work for the 130,000 installers and up to 25 UK-based boiler manufacturers throughout the economic recovery," he added. Commenting on the news, Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, said the speed of the uptake proves there is a demand for environmentally-friendly home improvement bargains. He added that rolling the scheme out across boilers from B, C, D, E, and F categories would cost more but greatly help reduce CO2 emissions.
