13% willing to share Skycouch bed with stranger
15/02/2010
Over ten per cent of people would be happy to share a Skycouch bed with a stranger they met in a queue, a new survey has revealed. The Skycouch, which has been developed by Air New Zealand, works by turning a row of three airline seats into a bed. According to flight comparison site Skyscanner, the couch has been heralded as the first 'lie-down economy bed' and is the first major development in economy class travel comfort in 20 years. In an online poll, Skyscanner found that 73 per cent of people would be willing to pay more for a Skycouch, while 13 per cent said they would share the bed with a stranger. Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and director said it was impressive that Air New Zealand were making long haul flying more comfortable. "We knew people would like the idea, but we were amazed that so many would be happy to share the Skycouch with a stranger they'd only just met at the airport," he said. "It could lead to new relationships blooming at twenty thousand feet, although Air New Zealand have stressed that Skycouches should not be used to join the 'mile high' club, he added. Earlier this month, a study, published in the journal Sleep, revealed that young adults are more tired during the day than healthy older people who do not have sleep disorders.
