01/03/2010

Canada 'committed to sustainable tourism'There is an increasing awareness of environmental issues among visitors to Canada's hotels, a new survey has shown.
The Hotel Association of Canada found that there was a heightened importance assigned to both green certified hotels and hotels promoting eco-friendly practices to their guests.
Some 44 per cent of holidaymakers said environmental initiatives at the hotels they frequented were important.
Brian Mullis, president of Sustainable Travel International, said: "Canada is already well known for its beauty and remarkable diversity. Now it's becoming known for its commitment to sustainable tourism."
He added that the tourism industry was "actively embracing sustainable business practices".
Train travel, such as rail holidays, and group tours could help people to cut their carbon footprint, he concluded.
