Cruises are 'often value for money'

04/03/2010

Cruises are 'often value for money'Holidaymakers are increasingly looking for quality, as well as value for money, according to a report.

Hayes & Jarvis said bargain-seeking holidaymakers are being driven further afield as they look to maximise holiday quality while minimising cost.

Sharron Livingston, editor at thetravelmagazine.net, said: "Every traveller wants to eke out as much luxury as their budget will allow, and these days, hotels are willing to negotiate."

She noted that when looking for the best value holidays, cruises can often be a good choice.

"Cruises are a really good bet: though prices haven't come down too much, the cruise companies have added value such as on board credits, free flights and even free excursions."

Similar to airlines, prices for cruises are lower to begin with and as capacity fills the prices rise, she said, adding that it is always best to book well in advance.

Last year, the Passenger Shipping Association predicted that 1.65 million UK passengers will choose to take a cruise in 2010.
